Mederma
How Does Mederma Work?
Mederma is a gel that is made to reduce the appearance of scars. The product is rich in an ingredient called allantoin, which is a nitrogen-rich molecule that softens the skin's keratin. Keratin is a fibrous protein that makes skin tough and waterproof. When you apply Mederma to a scar, it encourages the scarred skin cells to slough off to reveal smoother new growth as it helps your skin heal.
How To Apply Mederma
Follow the directions as indicated on the product packaging when applying Mederma. Each product has slightly different directions, but it should never be applied to broken skin or an open wound. Make sure that you apply Mederma to clean, dry skin and allow the product to fully absorb into the skin for best results. Apply it daily or as otherwise directed until your scar has faded or disappeared.
When To Use Mederma
Apply Mederma as soon as your wound is closed and continue applying every day for at least eight weeks on new scars. The product can be applied to existing scars daily for three to six months. Make sure that any scabs are off and that all stitches are removed before applying Mederma. If you have older scars, you can apply it immediately. Never use this product on open, broken skin.
Which Mederma Is Best For Scars?
