Are Vitamins FSA Eligible?
Certain vitamins and supplements are FSA eligible. Vitamins and supplements used for general health are not FSA eligible. But you may use your FSA funds to purchase vitamins and supplements used to treat a specific condition. For example, glucosamine chondroitin is one of the vitamins that may be purchased with your FSA funds if you have certain types of arthritis because it can help relieve joint pain.
Are Prenatal Vitamins FSA Eligible?
Yes! Prenatal vitamins are FSA eligible. Prenatal vitamins can be an important way to help ensure that you and your baby get the proper vitamins and minerals during your pregnancy. CVS offers a large selection of FSA prenatal vitamins that can be purchased using your FSA funds. Prenatal vitamins are available in a variety of forms, such as gummy form as well as pill form. Both versions are FSA eligible. If you have any questions about the eligibility of a certain product, it’s a good idea to check with your FSA plan administrator prior to making a purchase.
Are All Vitamins FSA Eligible?
Although many people rely on multivitamins and supplements for overall health and wellbeing, relatively few are FSA (flexible spending account) eligible. But there are exceptions. If your healthcare provider determines that a particular supplement is necessary for a specific medical condition, your purchase may be eligible. However, you will likely need a letter of medical necessity (LMN) from your physician. The letter may need to specify how the supplement will aid your treatment and how long you might need to take it.
What Vitamins Are FSA Eligible?
According to the terms of the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act, many OTC (over-the-counter) health essentials are FSA eligible. However, only vitamins or supplements used to treat medical conditions qualify. Prenatal vitamins are FSA/HSA (health savings account) eligible because they're known to help prevent birth defects. Physicians often recommend glucosamine and chondroitin supplements because they're shown to be helpful for the symptoms of arthritis. If you're pregnant or diagnosed with arthritis, your vitamins and supplements may qualify for reimbursement. At CVS Pharmacy®, you'll find an impressive assortment of FSA/HSA eligible tablets, capsules, and gummies. For more information on the eligibility of specific vitamins and dietary supplements, contact your plan administrator.
Are Vitamin Supplements FSA Eligible?
If your health care provider recommends taking a mineral supplement like calcium, iron, or zinc, your supplements may be FSA eligible. But like most vitamins, you'll likely need a letter of medical necessity for reimbursement. Your healthcare provider might recommend taking zinc for immunity, calcium supplements to reduce your risk of osteoporosis, or iron for chronic anemia. When your physician recommends taking a mineral supplement, getting an LMN from your provider can help reduce your out-of-pocket medical expenses.
