Systane
Say goodbye to dry, irritated eyes and hello to comfortable lubrication with Systane!
What Is Systane?
Systane is a brand that offers lubricating eye drops to help relieve dry eye. Depending on the severity of your dry eye symptoms and your eye health needs, some Systane eye drops may be a better fit for your needs than others. If you aren’t sure which Systane eye drops to choose, ask your optometrist for a recommendation. Systane also offers lubricating eye gel, eye vitamins, and other eye care products that are available over the counter.
What Is Systane Used For?
The majority of products offered by Systane are designed to help lubricate the eye and temporarily relieve the symptoms associated with dry eye. These may include: burning, itching, grittiness, and feeling as if something is in your eye. Each Systane product is formulated uniquely to help lubricate the eye and temporarily relieve discomfort caused by dry eye.
What Is In Systane Eye Drops?
Systane eye drops ingredients may vary based on the specific product. For example, Systane Balance Lubricant Eye Drops contain propylene glycol at 0.6% as the active ingredient, while Systane Ultra Lubricant Eye Drops contain polyethylene glycol at 0.4% and propylene glycol at 0.3% concentration as the active ingredients. In addition to the active ingredients, all Systane eye drops also contain a variety of inactive ingredients, such as boric acid and sodium chloride. Always read the label on your Systane product carefully to see the full list of ingredients used. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about what is in your Systane eye drops.
How To Use Systane Eye Drops
Unless the product packaging indicates otherwise, if you wear contacts, you’ll need to remove them before using Systane eye drops. You should always wash your hands before applying Systane lubricating eye drops. In some cases, you may need to gently shake the bottle before use. Check the product packaging to be sure. To apply the drops, tilt your head back, look upwards, and gently pull down the lower eyelid of one eye to form a pouch. Hold the bottle or dropper above your eye – in order to avoid contamination, be careful not to let the tip touch your eye – and gently squeeze out the recommended number of drops. Once the drops are in, gently close your eye for a few moments to prevent the lubricant from escaping. Then, repeat this process with your other eye. It is important to understand that these are just general guidelines. You should always follow the usage directions printed on the product packaging, and if you have questions or concerns about how to use Systane eye drops, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
How Often Can I Use Systane Eye Drops?
Please refer to the product packaging for usage directions. If you are unsure about how often to use Systane eye drops, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Also keep in mind that eye ointments are different from eye drops and should only be used 1 – 2 times daily, or as directed on the product packaging.
How Long Can You Use Systane Eye Drops?
Systane eye drops can be used as needed. However, if you find that your dry eye symptoms are frequent, severe, or if you do not experience temporary relief using eye drops, you may want to talk to your optometrist about what could be causing your symptoms and what the best treatment options are.
