What Is Opti Free®?
Opti-Free® is a brand of multi-purpose contact lens solutions made by Alcon. The brand offers 3 unique formulations for cleaning, rinsing and disinfecting soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses using a single product. Opti-Free® also makes 3 rewetting solutions developed to remove irritating particles, prevent deposit build-up and provide a refreshing burst of moisture. All Opti-Free® products are FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) eligible.
What Ingredients Are In Opti Free® Contact Lens Solutions?
The ingredients in Opti-Free® Multi-Purpose Contact Lens Solutions vary by product type. Opti-Free® Puremoist® Multi-Purpose Disinfecting Solution is made with the brand's exclusive dual disinfectants, POLYQUAD® and ALDOX®. The disinfectants eliminate infection-causing microorganisms as the HydraGlyde® Moisture Matrix provides all-day comfort. The complete list of ingredients includes sodium citrate, sodium chloride, sorbitol, boric acid, aminomethylpropanol, disodium EDTA, Tetronic® 1304, EOBO-41®, polyoxyethylene-polyoxybutylene, polyquaternium-1 and myristamidopropyl dimethylamine.
Can I Use Puremoist® Rewetting Drops As Eye Drops?
Dryness while wearing contact lenses is a common cause of temporarily blurry vision and eye irritation. Although Opti-Free® Puremoist® Rewetting Drops have a few of the same benefits as regular eye drops, the product types are not interchangeable. Using rewetting drops as a substitute for regular eyedrops is not generally recommended. Opti-Free® makes their rewetting drops with ingredients that help keep protein deposits from building up on your lenses. The active ingredients that help keep your vision clear and your lenses comfortable could cause unnecessary dryness or irritation when administered directly into your eyes. If you experience discomfort, irritation, or pain from any multi-purpose solution or rewetting drops, stop using the product immediately and contact your eye care provider.
Is Opti Free® Replenish® Made With Boric Acid?
Yes, many multi-purpose contact lens solutions contain small amounts of boric acid (hydrogen borate). The substance is often used in eyewashes to soothe irritation. Product manufacturers add the ingredient to multi-purpose contact lens solutions because of its antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. Opti-Free® Replenish® is made with boric acid and sodium borate. Sodium borate functions as a buffering and stabilizing agent that helps maintain optimal pH balance.
