To get the best results, follow it up with liquid such as water. It is not recommended to take more than 16 tablets within 24 hours. For the Regular Strength liquid Gaviscon, shake it first, then take one to two tablespoons four times a day. For Extra Strength, take two to four teaspoons per day or as directed by your doctor. Take this after your meals or during bedtime, and dispense the liquid Gaviscon by spoon or measuring device. Do not drink it straight out of the bottle.
How Does Gaviscon Work?
Gaviscon works by forming a protective layer on top of the contents of your stomach. Because it just floats on top, this layer can stop acid from escaping and going up into your windpipe. It is important to note that if you bought this medicine without a prescription, it's not recommended to take it for more than a week without a prescription from a medical professional.
