What Is Caltrate?

Caltrate is a calcium supplement that is available in six different forms. Caltrate products include tablets, minis, gummy bites, chewables, and soft chews. There is bound to be at least one that will meet your needs and preferences. However, these options are not the only reason to choose Caltrate. First, Caltrate contains calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is calcium in its most concentrated form. Second, Caltrate contains a high level of vitamin D, the nutrient that helps your body absorb calcium. There is more vitamin D in Caltrate than in other popular calcium supplements. Third, some of the Caltrate supplements contain additional minerals for extra benefits.

What Is Caltrate Used For?

Caltrate calcium supplements are primarily used to support bone health. When bones are strong and dense, it reduces the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. While this is important at any age, it is especially important as you grow older. There is simply not enough calcium in a normal diet to provide these benefits. Bone health is not the only purpose of calcium. Calcium is also needed for body strength, muscles, healthy teeth, enzymes and hormones, nerve messaging, and blood flow. We often hear that calcium is essential for older women. Although this is true, men and children need calcium, too. Although fewer men develop osteoporosis, it does occur. Young people also benefit from calcium supplements, as they work best when used during the years when bone mass is increasing. Caltrate is also useful for elderly women, especially if they did not have adequate calcium in their diets when they were younger.

How Much Calcium Is In Caltrate?

Each serving of Caltrate contains 600 mg of calcium. You should consider a number of factors when deciding how many servings to take each day. If there is plenty of calcium in the foods and beverages you consume every day, one tablet should be enough. Previously, it was recommended a person take two servings of Caltrate per day. If you do not consume a calcium-rich diet, or neglected calcium when you were younger, this recommendation is still acceptable. Calcium can be found in dairy products and some vegetables, but it is often not enough to meet your needs. Everyone wants a healthy body, and this includes healthy bones. You do not want to run the risk of a bone fracture, which take much longer to heal as you grow older. However, instead of looking at Caltrate as being only healthy for your bones, think of it as a boost to your overall health.
