Avon

Originally named the California Perfume Company, Avon® is an award-winning beauty brand first established in 1886. The founder renamed the company in 1939. Back then, all Avon® products were sold door-to-door, a "radical" business model that gave women of the time economic freedom. For decades, Avon® products were only available through brand representatives. Today, you'll find several popular Avon® products at CVS Pharmacy®.

Although there's no universally accepted definition of the term, most companies claiming their products are cruelty-free do not test on animals. They also don't rely on animal-sourced ingredients. Avon® products sold in the US are cruelty-free. The brand relies on computer models, existing data and clinical trials with human volunteers to ensure consumer safety. To reduce the need for unwanted animal testing in other countries, the company reformulated several products. But Avon® has not been able to move away from animal testing entirely. Some products sold in China require animal testing under specific circumstances.

Vegan health and beauty products are made without ingredients sourced from animals. Although many Avon® products are made with non-vegan ingredients, the company does offer a selection of vegan products, including facial treatments, sunscreen, toothpaste and a plant-based skincare line (Farm RX).
