Ginkgo Biloba Pills

Ginkgo biloba pills have been used to treat a variety of ailments in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Today, the extract from the Ginkgo biloba tree remains a popular remedy for tinnitus, anxiety, allergies, vision issues and many other health conditions.

What Are Ginkgo Biloba Pills?

Ginkgo biloba capsules contain the extract of the leaves of the Ginkgo tree. Researchers theorize that compounds called terpenoids and antioxidants called flavonoids create the health benefits of this substance. You can also find Ginkgo biloba extract in the form of an oil or tea. Don't eat the poisonous raw leaves and seeds of the Ginkgo biloba tree.

What Are the Benefits of Ginkgo Biloba Pills?

Scientists need more research to clarify the health benefits of Ginkgo biloba. Some studies indicate that it can help alleviate claudication, or pain caused by lack of blood flow, by encouraging blood vessel dilation. It could also help improve memory in healthy senior adults. Other research found that Ginkgo biloba for tinnitus can successfully reduce the intensity and volume of ear ringing and buzzing associated with this condition. Study participants included older adults with tinnitus related to dementia or impaired cognition.

What Are Side Effects of Taking Ginkgo Biloba Pills?

Most adults can safely take Ginkgo biloba pills. However, you may experience mild side effects, such as skin rash, constipation, upset stomach, heart palpitations, dizziness or headache. It can also cause issues with blood sugar management for people who have diabetes.

Ginkgo biloba interacts with many other over-the-counter and prescription drugs. Talk to your health care provider before starting this or any other herbal supplement.
