Vaseline

Vaseline is a brand of skincare products that was founded in 1859. The brand makes a variety of products for the skin and lips and began making petroleum jelly that was sold in small jars to consumers. Through a process of refinement and purification, Vaseline was marketed as a lightweight, transparent gel known for its many healing properties, primarily to heal wounded or burned skin at the time. Today, Vaseline has many uses and comes in many different formulas for various skincare needs.

Vaseline is used to protect and heal dry skin and prevent dry, cracked skin on hands, elbows, and heels. It can also be applied to the lips to soften them or all over the skin to moisturize and hydrate it. Many people also use Vaseline to prevent diaper rash, protect the skin from minor cuts and burns, and to lock moisture into dry skin. It's known to repair and protect dry skin to promote healing and hydration.

Vaseline is made of petroleum jelly, which is a mixture of mineral oils and natural waxes. Vaseline is made from 100-percent triple purified petroleum jelly. Some formulas, like Vaseline lotions, contain micro-droplets of Vaseline jelly along with a combination of other skin moisturizing ingredients.

Vaseline lasts a surprisingly long time and can be used for five to 10 years without losing its effectiveness if the product is stored properly in a cool, dry place and the lid is put on the container tightly. The Vaseline company states that the product has a three-year shelf life once it has been opened. As for its skin healing properties, Vaseline should continue to moisturize and protect the skin for several hours until reapplication is needed.
