What Is Febreze?

Febreze is a line of fabric and air freshener products designed to help you eliminate unpleasant odors. The brand was invented by Procter & Gamble in 1996 and continues to make a wide range of products today. The company makes a variety of items including fabric sprays, plug-in scented oils, air fresheners, and more.

How Does Febreze Work?

When you spray Febreze into the air or on fabric, the water in the product helps to partially dissolve the odor and form a complex inside the hole that the cyclodextrin forms. This "traps" the odor inside of the molecule so that it cannot bind to your odor receptors, which means you will no longer be able to smell it. Some products deactivate unpleasant odors while others replace it with something else, such as a floral or fruity fragrance depending on the type of product you purchase. As the spray dries, more molecules bind to the cyclodextrin which lowers the concentration in the air, thus eliminating the odor.

How Long Does Febreze Last?

Febreze spray should last between 45 and two hours. If you spray more, it may last closer to between three and six hours. Febreze plug-in products last all day and night since they are constantly emanating a pleasant fragrance from the plug-in unit into the air.

What Is In Febreze?

The active ingredient in Febreze is beta-cyclodextrin, which is a type of carbohydrate. It also contains beta-cyclodextrin, an eight-sugar ringed molecule that is formed via enzymatic conversion of starch, usually from corn.

How To Use Febreze In Small Spaces

To use the Febreze Small Spaces product, remove it from the outer packaging, then remove the inner gel packaging and gently peel away the foil backing. Place the gel back inside the plastic holder, and gently squeeze it until you feel a slight click. This should release the gel and allow it to start sending the scent into the air. This product is best used in a closet, small bathroom, laundry room, or other small areas of your home for the best results.
