Scalp Oil

Scalp oil is a product you can apply directly to your scalp to restore moisture and hydration. This product is used to combat dandruff and help relieve the irritation and itchiness associated with an itchy scalp. Look for a scalp oil or scalp treatment product that works with your hair type. If your hair is dry, try a moisturizing scalp oil that will lock in hydration and keep your scalp smooth, and hydrated for healthy hair. Scalp oil may also help to protect the hair follicles during washing and styling. If you're using an essential oil like peppermint oil or tea tree oil, be sure to dilute it with a carrier oil like jojoba, coconut oil, or almond oil.

To apply scalp oil, massage it into the nape of your neck using both hands, and work your fingers up the back of your head to the crown. Next, work the oil from the base of your ears to the top of your head on both sides. Take your time and spend about three to five minutes massaging the oil into your scalp. This may help to exfoliate and soften skin cells while removing excess buildup and debris. Be sure you choose the right type of scalp oil for your needs. A detoxifying or clarifying scalp oil is a good way to prevent flakes and dandruff. Apply your scalp oil using an applicator bottle with a small tip so you don't use too much at once. Many scalp oil products come with an applicator bottle, dropper, or spray bottle.

You can use scalp oil as a pre-wash treatment before you shampoo and condition your hair. If your scalp and/or hair are oily, limit the use of scalp oil to once per week or less, depending on your hair type. If you're dealing with an itchy scalp or have unusually dry hair, you can use scalp oil every time you shampoo if desired. Using too much product or applying scalp oil too often may cause excess oil and buildup, so you may want to try using it just a few times per week until you find a schedule that works for you.

The best ingredients for scalp oil should be gentle and natural. Look for products that contain various oils including coconut oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, or apricot kernel oil. Allantoin is a natural ingredient that comes from the comfrey plant and may help to prevent or treat a dry and itchy scalp. Scalp oil that contains aloe vera juice is another good option since this ingredient is great for your hair and your scalp. Read product labels carefully to find out what's in your scalp oil.
