Enhancing & Colored Contacts

Enhancing and colored contact lenses let you alter the appearance of your natural eye color. This provides a wow factor not found in your normal beauty routine. They can brighten and enhance your natural eye color or give you a new color altogether.

Prescription Colored Contacts

There are two different types of color contact lenses available in today's market. Prescription colored contacts correct your myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism in addition to enhancing or changing your eye color. Plano colored contacts are contact lenses worn purely for cosmetic purposes. The lenses have no power for vision correction and simply enhance or change your eye color. Even without the corrective power, you must have a valid prescription in order to purchase plano colored contacts.

Visibility vs. Enhancement vs. Opaque

Color contact lenses are designed to mimic the colored part of the eye--the iris. Since the iris is made up of colorful shapes and lines, colored contact lenses use a series of tiny dots and radially arranged lines and shapes to help the colored lens look natural on the eye. The center of the lens remains clear, to allow your pupil to see the world in a clear, normal way, instead of in a strange color.

Color contact lenses come in three types of tints. Visibility tints are added to contact lenses to help you see it better during insertion and removal. This tint is usually light blue or green and is relatively faint. It does not change or enhance your eye color; it simply helps you find the contact lens should you drop it.

An enhancement tint is a solid but see-through tint that is a little darker than a visibility tint. An enhancement tint--you guessed it--enhances your natural eye color. This is particularly useful if you have light-colored eyes and want to make your eye color more vibrant.

The third tint is an opaque tint. This is a non-transparent tint that changes your eye color completely--from blue to green, from brown to blue, etc. Colored contact lenses with opaque tints come in a wide variety of colors, including hazel, green, blue, violet, amethyst, brown and gray.

Colored contact lenses are a great choice if you want to brighten or change the color of your iris. There are a few drawbacks, such as an unnatural look if the colored portion of the lenses moves off your iris, but colored contacts are safe and comfortable if you are looking to change your appearance without drastic measures.
